Chennai Metro Corridor 4 Launches Trial Runs on Porur-Poonamallee Route
Imagine Chennai is building a new train line to help people get around faster!
They're testing the trains on a special path between two places called Porur and Poonamallee.
These trains can drive themselves, but for now, a person will watch them closely to make sure everything is safe.
The trains are going slow at first, like when you learn to ride a bike, but will go faster later.
The company is also working on finishing other parts of the new train line, so more people can use it soon!
Trial runs have commenced on the 9.5km Porur-Poonamallee stretch of Chennai Metro's Corridor 4.
Six driverless trains are undergoing testing, though initially with manual supervision for safety.
The 10-station viaduct has completed track installation, overhead electrification, and civil works.
Trial speeds are currently at 25 kmph, set to increase to 60-70 kmph in the coming weeks.
The line is expected to be commissioned in December 2025, with other segments by mid-2026.
