Indian Railways Boosts LHB Coach Production
Indian Railways is making a lot of special train cars called LHB coaches.
These coaches are safer and more comfortable than the old ones.
They can go faster and have better brakes.
In the first part of this year, they made over 4,200 of these new coaches, which is a big increase from last year.
Three main factories in Chennai, Raebareli, and Kapurthala are making these coaches.
Over the last 11 years, they have made more than 42,000 of these coaches, which is a huge improvement from the 2,300 made in the previous 10 years.
These new coaches help India make things at home and not have to buy them from other countries.
Indian Railways produced over 4,224 LHB coaches in the current financial year 2025-26, up 18% from the previous year.
LHB coaches are designed to provide improved safety, enhanced riding comfort, and better operational performance.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai produced 1,659 LHB coaches, followed by the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli with 1,234, and the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala with 1,331.
Between 2014 and 2025, Indian Railways produced more than 42,600 LHB coaches, an 18-fold increase over the 2,300 coaches manufactured between 2004 and 2014.
LHB coaches feature stainless steel bodies, advanced disc brakes, higher speeds (up to 160 kmph), and enhanced safety features like anti-climbing devices.
