Kolkata remains Eastern India's largest industrial and logistics market hub
Kolkata is a big city in India.
A new report says it is the biggest place for factories and warehouses in Eastern India.
The report comes from a company called CBRE South Asia that studies commercial real estate.
It says Kolkata now has more than 24 million square feet of warehouse space.
Businesses rented about 1.8 million square feet of that space in the first half of 2026.
That is 69 percent more than in the six months before.
Companies that move and store products for other businesses rented the most space.
Online shopping companies and stores also rented more space.
Food and drinks makers rented four times more space than a year ago.
This shows that Kolkata is becoming very important for business in India.

Industrial and logistics leasing in the city reached approximately 1.8 million sq. ft. in H1 2026, a 69 per cent increase over the previous six-month period.
The report from CBRE South Asia highlighted Kolkata's role as a manufacturing, warehousing and distribution hub backed by infrastructure investments and multimodal connectivity.
Third-party logistics companies led leasing activity since 2020 with 35 per cent of cumulative space take-up, followed by e-commerce (15 per cent) and retail (12 per cent).
An estimated $170 million in industrial and logistics investment flowed into Kolkata between 2020 and H1 2026, while FMCG space take-up rose four-fold year-on-year.
