Rain Stars as Definitive Character in Bollywood Film Classics
Movies can use weather to tell stories, and rain is one of the most powerful tools filmmakers have.
In some Bollywood movies, rain is almost like another character.
This article talks about five films where rainy scenes change the mood completely.
In the old classic Woh Kaun Thi, a rainy night helps two strangers meet in a mysterious car ride.
In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a girl named Anjali runs through the rain and says 'I love you' to the wrong person.
In Lagaan, a village desperately wants rain, and it finally comes after a big victory.
In Baazigar, every sad thing that happens to the hero happens on stormy nights.
In 100 Days, a scary killer uses a rainy night to commit a crime.
Rain makes these movie moments feel more exciting, scary, or emotional for the audience.
So next time you see rain in a movie, remember it might be doing more than just making things wet!
The article highlights five Bollywood films where rain acts as a defining character: Woh Kaun Thi (1964), 100 Days, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Lagaan and Baazigar.
In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Anjali (Kajol) confesses 'I love you so much' in the rain, only to realize it is Aman (Salman Khan), not Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), embracing her.
In Lagaan, rain finally pours after Bhuvan (Aamir Khan) leads Champaner to victory and wins a three-year lagaan (tax) waiver from the British.
In Baazigar, every major tragedy in protagonist Ajay's life, including the deaths of his mother, father and newborn sister, happens on rainy nights.
In 100 Days, a raincoat-clad killer shoots Rama (Moon Moon Sen) during a stormy night; the article notes a continuity error in the body disposal scene.
The article credits rain with making scenes more impactful, memorable and emotionally charged across the films.
