Anant Chaturdashi: Why Devotees Tie Fourteen Knots In Anant Sutra

Anant Chaturdashi is a Hindu festival honoring Lord Vishnu.

Vishnu is worshipped as Ananta, which means eternal or infinite.

The festival happens on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month of Bhadrapada.

In 2026, it will be observed on September 25.

People may tie a sacred thread called the Anant Sutra around their arm.

The thread usually has 14 knots.

These knots are linked to the 14 worlds and 14 divine forms associated with Vishnu.

The festival also marks the end of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.

During Ganesh Visarjan, devotees submerge Ganesha statues in water as a farewell.
