Maharashtra Proposes Naming Navi Mumbai Airport After Loknete D. B. Patil
The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has received a proposal from the Maharashtra government to name the new Navi Mumbai International Airport after a respected local leader named Loknete D. B. Patil.
This leader, also known as Dinkar Balu Patil, was a politician and social activist who helped farmers in Navi Mumbai get fair compensation for their land.
The Maharashtra cabinet approved this proposal in 2022.
The Minister of Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, shared this information in Parliament.
He explained that airports are usually named after the city they are in, but if a state government suggests a different name and the state's legislature agrees, the central government can make a decision.
A local member of Parliament, Balya Mama Suresh Gopinath Mhatre, has been supporting this idea.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed receiving a proposal from Maharashtra to name Navi Mumbai International Airport after Loknete D. B. Patil.
