Transport Fuel Consumption Remains High in December 2025
In December 2025, India used a lot of diesel, petrol, and jet fuel.
Diesel use was a bit less than in November but still high because of industrial and farm activities, and the wedding season.
Petrol use went up because more people are buying cars and bikes.
Jet fuel use was a bit less than in November but still high overall.
People are traveling more, both within India and internationally.
Experts think this trend will continue because more people are becoming wealthier and the economy is growing.
Diesel consumption in December 2025 was 8.46 million tonnes, a 1% decrease from November 2025 but a 5% increase year-on-year.
Petrol consumption rose by 0.7% month-on-month and 6.7% year-on-year to 3.54 million tonnes.
Jet fuel consumption was 782,000 tonnes, a 0.8% decrease from November 2025 but flat year-on-year.
High industrial, mining, and farm activity, along with the wedding season and vacation travel, drove the demand for diesel.
Growing affluence in rural and semi-urban areas increased the demand for petrol and personal vehicles.
