Delhi Government to Extend Water Bill Surcharge Waiver to Commercial Consumers
Imagine you forgot to pay your water bill on time, and the city added extra charges, like a late fee.
The Delhi government already helped people who live in homes by offering to waive most of these extra charges if they pay their old bills.
Now, they are planning to do something similar for businesses, shops, and big buildings like malls.
These businesses owe a lot of money in late fees, so the government will let them pay their old water bills with a smaller amount of extra charges.
They might get 90% of the late fees waived if they pay soon.
The government is also looking at new ways to make sure bills are correct and easier to collect, like using special meters, because many people don't pay their water bills on time.
Delhi government plans to extend water bill late payment surcharge waiver to commercial entities by January.
Commercial consumers will receive a 90% waiver on Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) if bills are settled in the first phase.
Commercial consumers have the highest pending water dues, totaling Rs 66,000 crore.
The government aims to address a total of Rs 1.42 lakh crore in pending water bills from consumers in dispute.
Delhi government is also considering upgrading to smart metering and a new water bill collection system.
