Cannes Winners Ineligible for WGA Awards
Cannes Winners ‘Sentimental Value’, ‘Secret Agent’, ‘It Was Just An Accident’ Among Screenplays Ineligible For WGA Awards · deadline.com

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has strict rules for which screenplays can be nominated for their awards.

This year, many famous and award-winning films like 'Sentimental Value,' 'It Was Just An Accident,' and 'The Secret Agent' won't be on the ballot.

These films won big prizes at festivals like Cannes and have been nominated for other awards, but they don't meet the WGA's rules.

The WGA says scripts must be written under certain agreements and must be formally submitted.

Some films, like 'M3gan 2.0' and 'Black Phone 2,' are eligible.

The nominations will be announced in January 2026, and the awards will be given in March 2026.
