Tamil Nadu Opposes Karnataka's Mekedatu Project
Tamil Nadu is very upset about Karnataka's plans to build a dam called Mekedatu on the Cauvery River.
They think this dam will take away their water and hurt their farms and lives.
So, they went to the Supreme Court to ask them to stop Karnataka from making plans for the dam.
But the court said no, Karnataka can keep working on it.
Now, Tamil Nadu has filed another request, saying the court's earlier decision was not fair.
They also asked the Central Water Commission not to let Karnataka build the dam.
Meanwhile, Karnataka is moving forward with the project, setting up a team to make it happen faster.
They want to use the dam to give water to Bengaluru and make electricity.
Tamil Nadu filed a revision petition in the Supreme Court against its order dated November 13, arguing it contradicts an earlier order from 2018.
Tamil Nadu's Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan stated the government would not allow Karnataka to have a free run on the Cauvery issue.
Tamil Nadu appealed to the Central Water Commission to not allow the Mekedatu dam scheme, claiming it would be detrimental to their interests.
AIADMK general secretary alleged that the Tamil Nadu government was not adequately countering Karnataka's moves to build the dam.
Karnataka is proceeding with the Mekedatu project, forming an expert team to expedite the project and establish a dedicated project office in Ramanagara.
