Chhattisgarh HC Grants Bail to Ex-CM's Son in Liquor Scam
The Chhattisgarh High Court has allowed Chaitanya Baghel, the son of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, to go free on bail in two cases.
These cases are about a big problem called the liquor scam.
The scam happened between 2019 and 2022 when Bhupesh Baghel's party was in charge.
The government says this scam caused a huge loss of money to the state.
Chaitanya is accused of being a big part of this scam and handling a lot of the money involved.
The court's decision lets him out of jail while the cases continue.
The court said there wasn't enough proof directly linking Chaitanya to the crime, as there were no documents or official communications in his name.
Chhattisgarh High Court granted bail to Chaitanya Baghel in two cases related to the alleged liquor scam.
Chaitanya Baghel was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in July 2023 for money laundering and by the ACB/EOW in September 2023 for corruption.
The alleged scam occurred between 2019 and 2022 during the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government.
The ED claims the scam caused a massive loss to the state exchequer and enriched a liquor syndicate.
Chaitanya Baghel is accused of handling nearly Rs 1,000 crore from the scam and receiving Rs 200-250 crore as his share.
