Bengal Minister Defends Police Excesses to Control Mafias

West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh said police sometimes need to use very strong methods.

He said this could help stop mafias and dangerous criminals.

Ghosh argued that police overreacting is better than criminals causing more trouble.

He criticized the previous state government for allegedly allowing criminals to operate.

He said police officers should not work like political party members.

Ghosh also said encounters could happen if necessary.

He mentioned the case of Prvas Mondal, who was accused in a rape and murder case.

His comments have drawn attention because they support possible police excesses in the name of public safety.
