Supreme Court Criticizes Kerala Governor Over Pending VC Appointments
The Supreme Court of India is upset with the Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Arlekar, because he hasn't even looked at a report about appointing new leaders for two universities.
The report was made by a retired judge, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.
The Governor is also the Chancellor of these universities.
The court asked why the Governor didn't review the report, which was sent by the Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan.
This is part of a bigger argument between the state government and the Governor's office about filling important jobs in universities.
The court had earlier asked Justice Dhulia to help with the appointments.
Supreme Court expressed displeasure over Kerala Governor's inaction on pending vice-chancellor appointments.
Governor Rajendra Arlekar had not reviewed a report submitted by retired Supreme Court judge Sudhanshu Dhulia.
The report pertains to appointments at APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology.
Court justices JB Pardiwala and KV Viswanathan questioned why the Governor had not even looked at the report.
The dispute is part of an ongoing conflict between the Kerala government and the Governor's office over academic appointments.
