SHRC Takes Action on Abandoned Elderly Cancer Patient in Mumbai
An elderly woman named Yashoda, who has cancer, was found abandoned in a pile of garbage in Mumbai's Aarey Colony.
The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is very concerned about this and has started an investigation.
They also think a government hospital might have refused to treat her, which would be a big problem.
The police found out that Yashoda's family, including her grandson, might have left her there.
The family is now in trouble for not taking care of her.
The SHRC wants to know more about what happened and will make sure everyone does their job to help elderly people.
The SHRC took suo motu cognisance of an elderly cancer patient, Yashoda, found abandoned in garbage at Aarey Colony, Mumbai.
The commission is investigating allegations that Cooper Hospital refused to admit and treat Yashoda, which would be a violation of her human rights.
Police investigations suggest Yashoda was abandoned by her family, with her grandson allegedly admitting to dumping her in the garbage.
Three family members, including Yashoda's grandson, have been charged under the Senior Citizens Act for abandonment.
The SHRC has directed the MCGM and Deputy Commissioner of Police to submit inquiry reports within eight weeks.
