Tata Sons Board Backs Chandrasekaran Amid Trusts Standoff

Tata Sons Board Backs Chandrasekaran Amid Trusts Standoff

Tata Sons is having a disagreement about who should lead its board.

The board voted to support N. Chandrasekaran for another five-year term.

Noel Tata and Tata Trusts oppose this recommendation because Chandrasekaran had said he would leave after his current term ends in February 2027.

The Trusts also say the board’s decision was illegal.

A shareholder vote will still be needed before Chandrasekaran can continue as a director.

One major trust group currently cannot use its votes, making the result uncertain.

Tata Sons is also facing pressure from the Reserve Bank of India over financial rules and a possible listing.

At the same time, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group wants to sell part of its stake in Tata Sons for ₹25,000 crore.
