Assam Recognizes Wildlife Genetics Lab for Forensics
Imagine a lab that can help catch people who hurt animals.
The government in Assam has officially said that a special lab, Aaranyak's Wildlife Genetics Laboratory, can do this.
This lab uses DNA, like a fingerprint for animals, to solve wildlife crimes.
This means they can help find out who did it.
This is a first-of-its-kind recognition, so the lab can now work directly with the police.
The lab has already helped solve many cases, and now they can keep all the work in Assam instead of sending it to other places.
Assam government recognizes Aaranyak's Wildlife Genetics Laboratory for wildlife crime forensics.
This is the first such recognition under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The lab will assist law enforcement with DNA-based forensic evidence in wildlife crime cases.
Aaranyak's WGL has supported 135 wildlife crime investigations with genetic analysis.
The lab's recognition allows for local analysis, avoiding the need to send samples outside of Assam.
