Madhya Pradesh to Track Trees: First MeriLiFE Portal Initiative
Imagine a special online system, like a public diary, to keep track of trees being planted and cut down in Madhya Pradesh.
The government wants to use this system, called MeriLiFE, to know exactly how many trees are planted, where they are, and if they survive.
Currently, the system only tracks new trees.
The new system will also track where and how many trees get cut down.
This way, they can ensure that for every tree cut, new ones are planted.
This helps the government make sure the environment stays healthy by tracking all the trees.
Madhya Pradesh is creating a system to track both tree planting and felling on the MeriLiFE portal.
This initiative will be the first of its kind in India.
The portal currently tracks plantation data from 4,852 Urban Local Bodies across India.
Over 31 lakh saplings have been planted this year in Madhya Pradesh.
The new system will allow tracking of tree loss and ensure compensatory plantation.
