Copper and Gold Prices Surge in 2025
In 2025, both copper and gold prices had a great year.
Copper prices went up by 42%, the biggest annual gain since 2009, because people think there won't be enough copper in the future and they need it for things like electric cars and clean energy.
Some traders sent a lot of copper to the US because they think there might be new taxes on it, which made it harder to find copper in other places.
There were also some accidents at big copper mines that made the problem worse.
Gold prices also surged by 80%, the biggest annual gain since 1979, because of US interest rate cuts, geopolitical tensions, and central bank purchases.
Even though both prices dipped a little on the last trading day of the year, they still had a really good year overall.
Experts think that in the long run, we'll need even more of these metals for various reasons, and the prices will stay high.
Copper prices surged 42% on the London Metal Exchange in 2025, the biggest annual gain since 2009.
Gold prices surged roughly 80% in 2025, the steepest annual rise since 1979, fueled by US interest rate cuts and geopolitical tensions.
Prices for both copper and gold dipped on the last trading day of 2025 due to profit booking.
Traders rushed to ship copper to the US ahead of potential tariffs, creating supply tightness elsewhere.
Long-term demand for both copper and gold is expected to grow significantly due to various factors including the shift to cleaner energy and geopolitical uncertainty.
