Bombay High Court Allows Pune Cantonment Construction Despite Defence Concerns

The Bombay High Court allowed people who lease two plots in Pune Cantonment to build homes there.

Their leases are valid until November 30, 2033.

Defence authorities opposed the construction because they may need the land later.

They also said the area had a shortage of housing for officers and that construction could create security concerns.

The court said future possibilities could not cancel rights that currently exist under a valid lease.

The leaseholders promised to use the buildings only as family homes.

They also agreed not to build high-rises or give rights to builders or other people.

The Pune Cantonment Board must process the permissions within 30 days after receiving the required undertakings.
