Core sectors' output rises 5% in June
The Indian government recently shared some important news about the country's core infrastructure sectors.
These sectors include things like electricity, cement, and now iron ore, which has been added to the list.
In June 2026, these sectors grew by 5%, which is the highest growth in five months.
This growth was mainly because of an increase in the production of cement, electricity, and iron ore.
However, some sectors like crude oil and natural gas saw a decrease in production.
The government has also updated the base year for these calculations to 2022-23, which is more recent than the previous base year of 2011-12.
Overall, this growth is a positive sign for India's infrastructure development.
Core infrastructure sectors' output grew by 5% in June 2026, the highest in five months.
The government updated the base year to 2022-23 and added iron ore to the index, increasing the number of core sectors to nine.
Production of cement and electricity rose by 9.8% each, while iron ore production jumped by 43.9%.
Production of crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, and fertiliser declined in June 2026.
During April-June 2026-27, the key sectors expanded by 3.6%, compared to 1% in the same period last year.
