Former MP booked after fatal Mumbai scooter crash in Khar
A car hit a scooter carrying Iyappan Harijan and his wife Nancy in Mumbai.
Iyappan was badly hurt and later died in hospital.
Nancy was injured and is receiving treatment.
Another scooter rider was also hurt in the crash.
Police say former MP and retired Army Brigadier Sudhir Sawant was driving the car.
They believe the car was moving quickly and was being driven negligently.
Police registered a case and gave Sawant a notice instead of arresting him.
The investigation is still continuing.
A 41-year-old BMC employee, Iyappan Harijan, died after a car allegedly hit his scooter in Khar on Monday evening.
Police booked former Army Brigadier and former MP Sudhir Sitaram Sawant, 71, who was allegedly driving the car.
Iyappan’s wife, Nancy, was injured, while another scooter rider, Rahul Ghanekar, suffered injuries including a fractured arm.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that Sawant was driving at high speed and negligently.
Because the registered offences carry punishments of less than two years, police served Sawant a notice instead of arresting him; he was later hospitalized after his blood pressure rose.
