False Nepal Flood Claim Obscures Uttar Pradesh Elephant Rescue
A video showed elephants struggling in fast-moving floodwater.
The video claimed the elephants had been carried from Nepal into India.
Officials said that claim was false.
The elephants were already in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The herd had three grown elephants and two young calves.
Strong water in the Kaudiyala river pushed them toward a barrage.
Officials closed the barrage gates to slow the water, and the adults helped the calves reach shallow water.
Forest workers then guided the whole herd safely back to its sanctuary.
