Donations to Political Parties Surge Post Electoral Bonds Ban
In India, the Supreme Court recently stopped a system called electoral bonds that let people give money to political parties without anyone knowing who gave it.
Now, donations have gone up a lot, especially to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The BJP got much more money than the Congress party and all other parties combined.
This extra money helps the BJP run bigger campaigns, which can make them more popular.
But having more money doesn't always mean they will win, but it does give them a big advantage.
The BJP got Rs 6,088 crore, while the Congress got Rs 522 crore.
Most of the money came from big companies and trusts.
This shows that many businesses support the BJP.
In the U.S., the candidate who spends the most money usually wins, but that's not always the case in India.
Even though the BJP has more money, it's not guaranteed they will win the elections.
Donations to political parties have tripled in the financial year 2024-25 after the Supreme Court banned electoral bonds.
The BJP received Rs 6,088 crore, significantly more than the Congress's Rs 522 crore.
Electoral trusts donated Rs 3,811 crore, with the BJP receiving Rs 3,112 crore, Congress Rs 299 crore, and other parties Rs 400 crore.
Transparency in donations has led to higher contributions, with the BJP benefiting the most.
Higher funding gives the BJP an advantage in campaigns, but it does not guarantee electoral victory.
