HC Directs Odisha Govt to Revise ASO Seniority List
Imagine there are two groups of workers who got hired at the same job.
The court said the people who actually started working first should be considered senior, even if their hiring process took a little longer.
This helps decide who gets promoted or gets better benefits.
The court told the government to fix the list of who's senior and who's not, based on when people really started working.
Also, people who got promoted are considered senior to new hires in the same year.
This is to make sure everyone is treated fairly.
The Orissa High Court ordered the state government to revise the seniority list of Assistant Section Officers (ASOs).
The ruling impacts hundreds of employees in the Odisha Secretariat Service.
The court determined seniority should be based on the actual appointment date, not the advertisement date.
The court ruled ASOs appointed earlier in 2016 must be placed above those appointed later that year.
The Home Department must revise the ASO gradation list following the court's directives.
