2026 CGHS Rules Remove Geographic Limits for Government Employees

2026 CGHS Rules Remove Geographic Limits for Government Employees

The government changed the rules for a health scheme called CGHS.

Earlier, some employees could use CGHS only if they lived or worked near a CGHS Wellness Centre.

Now, eligible serving Central Government employees can choose CGHS even if they live or work outside those areas.

This choice can be made only once and cannot later be changed.

The employee and eligible family members must use either CGHS or the CS(MA) system, not both.

CGHS usually lets people use its healthcare network, while CS(MA) generally requires them to pay first and seek reimbursement.

Employees must continue paying the CGHS contribution after choosing it.

They should check whether CGHS facilities are easy for their whole family to reach.

False information can lead to disciplinary action and recovery of benefits.
