Indian-Origin AI Pioneer Soumith Chintala Leaves Meta After 11 Years
Soumith Chintala, a very smart computer scientist from India who helped create a powerful AI tool called PyTorch at Meta (the company that owns Facebook), is leaving the company.
He has worked there for eleven years, and for almost eight of those years, he was in charge of PyTorch, helping it become super popular.
Even though PyTorch is a big success and is used by almost all major AI companies and taught in schools, Soumith feels it's time for him to move on.
He wants to try something completely new and small, something he doesn't fully understand yet, just to see what he's capable of.
He said he's leaving with a full heart, thankful for his time and the friends he made, but he feels a strong pull to explore beyond Meta.
