UltraTech’s Wires Entry Raises Margin Questions for Cable Leaders

UltraTech’s Wires Entry Raises Margin Questions for Cable Leaders

UltraTech Cement, a large cement company, has started making wires and cables through a new business called Ultravolt.

It has invested Rs 1,800 crore in this project.

Experts say the wires and cables market is growing quickly, so there may be room for both Ultravolt and existing companies.

They do not expect established companies to immediately lose a large amount of market share.

However, companies may need to offer dealers more money or lower prices to compete.

This could reduce their profits, especially in house wires.

High-voltage cables may be safer because customers often require approvals and a proven track record.

Analysts currently like Polycab most, with KEI seen as a higher-growth company and RR Kabel still being watched.

UltraTech is still expected to remain mainly a cement company in the near term.
