Trans Latinas in 50s Celebrate Quinceañeras
Some transgender Latina women in their 40s and 50s recently celebrated their quinceañeras, which is a special party usually for 15-year-old girls in Latin America.
They did this with the help of a group called Organización Latina de Trans en Texas.
These women had always dreamed of having this party but couldn't when they were younger because of social taboos.
The event was very important to them because being transgender can be very dangerous in many places, especially in Latin America.
They were happy to finally experience this special moment in their lives.
Six transgender Latina women in their 40s and 50s celebrated quinceañeras in Houston.
The event was organized by the Organización Latina de Trans en Texas.
Quinceañeras are cultural coming-of-age events typically for 15-year-old Latinas.
The women faced social taboos and risks as transgender individuals in Latin America.
The celebration was significant due to the high risks and mortality rates for transgender people in Latin America.
