Why Gurugram Submerges Every Monsoon Despite Drainage Spending

Gurugram gets flooded when a lot of rain falls quickly.

The city sits in a low area, so water from nearby hills flows toward it.

Much of the ground is covered with concrete, leaving less space for water to soak into the earth.

The Badshahpur drain cannot always carry all the stormwater.

When it becomes too full, dirty water spills onto roads and into neighborhoods.

The city spent Rs 503 crore on drainage improvements over nine years through 2025.

However, some important work, such as cleaning drains and repairing roads before the rains, has not been done well enough.

Instead, pumps are often brought in after flooding has already started.
