TAHDCO Initiative Provides Income for SC/ST Women in Tamil Nadu
In Tamil Nadu, a program helps women from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities earn more money.
About 2,800 women are sewing school uniforms for students in schools supported by the government.
These women, many of whom have received loans from the government, are organized into groups that sew the uniforms.
They get fabric from the state and then measure students for the uniforms.
This work, which lasts about 45 to 50 days, provides them with a significant income boost, sometimes doubling what they typically earn.
The government pays them a set amount for each uniform they complete.
TAHDCO is providing income to nearly 2,800 SC/ST women entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu.
The women are stitching 2.51 lakh school uniforms for students.
Uniform materials are supplied by the Tamil Nadu Textile Corporation.
Tailors receive ₹300 per set for girls' uniforms and ₹200 for boys'.
