India Builds Transmission and Storage for Renewable Energy Future

India is building more solar and wind power to make its energy supply cleaner and safer.

But solar does not produce electricity at night, and wind power can change with the weather.

This means India also needs stronger power lines and batteries.

A new government program will spend Rs 1.86 lakh crore on transmission systems and battery storage.

It aims to move up to 135 GW of renewable electricity and add 50 GWh of batteries by 2032–33.

Batteries can store extra electricity and provide it when demand is high.

India is also developing rooftop and floating solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal energy and green hydrogen.

These projects could reduce the need to import fossil fuels and create jobs.

The overall goal is to make clean electricity available when people and businesses need it.
