71-Year-Old Farmer Digs Well After Wife Humiliated in Sagar

A 71-year-old farmer in India dug a well all by himself using a shovel and a spade.

He did this because his wife was treated badly when she went to fetch water from a private well owned by someone else.

Before starting, the farmer asked government offices for help, but nobody helped him.

So he decided to dig the well on the land the government had given him.

The work was very hard and took seven whole years.

Every rainy season, the soil fell back into the hole, and he had to start again.

He kept working, even on moonlit nights, and finally finished the well.

Now the well has water all year round, even in the hot summer when other water sources dry up.

Many people in his village get water from his well.

He lets people draw water with their hands but does not want a motor pump, because he worries the government might take his well away.
