Calcutta HC Directs MGNREGA Resumption in Bengal
A court in Kolkata has told the Indian government to restart the MGNREGA jobs program in West Bengal, effective August 1, 2025.
The government stopped funding the program in March 2022 because of problems with how the money was used.
The court said that the government can still check to make sure the program is being run correctly.
This is to help people in the state get the work they need and to ensure the money is used properly.
Calcutta High Court ordered the Centre to resume MGNREGA in Bengal from August 1, 2025.
The central government halted funding in March 2022 due to reported irregularities.
The court allowed the Centre to implement special monitoring mechanisms.
Irregularities were confirmed at 31 of 63 inspected sites.
