ED Seeks Documents in Sabarimala Gold Loss Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked a court in Kerala for copies of documents related to the investigation of gold missing from the Sabarimala temple.
The ED believes that the people involved in the theft might have used the gold in illegal ways, so they want to check.
The court has asked the public prosecutor to respond to this request and will decide on December 10.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is already looking into two cases about gold missing from the temple's idols and door frames.
The public prosecutor said that giving these documents now might not be a good idea because the investigation is still going on.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a petition in the Vigilance Court in Kollam, Kerala, seeking copies of FIRs and case records related to the alleged loss of gold from the Sabarimala temple.
The ED believes that the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potty, and others may have possessed 'proceeds of crime' and wants to investigate potential money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The court heard the ED's request and directed the public prosecutor to file objections, with the next hearing scheduled for December 10.
The public prosecutor objected, stating that a confidential investigation is ongoing and handing over documents at this stage might not be appropriate.
