UP Assembly Debates Power Issues, Privatisation
In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) raised concerns about the alleged encroachment of the Aravalli Hills and the power situation in the state.
They accused the government of selling the Aravalli Hills to 'friends' and highlighted that villages were experiencing power cuts for up to 12 hours.
The SP also objected to the purchase of electricity from the Adani Group at a rate of Rs 5.383 per unit.
The Energy Minister, Arvind Kumar Sharma, responded by stating that the issue of privatisation of the power sector is still under consideration and no final decision has been taken.
He also mentioned that during the SP regime in 2014, the government had purchased electricity at a higher rate.
The minister claimed that power generation in the state has increased significantly since the BJP-led government came to power in 2017.
He assured that smart meters are transparent and functioning well, with no additional charges for consumers.
