RBI Issues Updated Guidelines for Payment Aggregators
The RBI has created new rules for companies that handle online payments (PAs) and offer guidelines for tech providers (PGs).
Non-bank PAs must be approved by RBI.
These companies need to have a certain amount of money to start and even more after a few years.
PAs must check merchants to prevent fraud and protect customer data.
PAs must not store customer card details, and all refunds should go back to the original payment method unless agreed otherwise.
Strong security systems and annual audits are also required.
RBI issued new guidelines for Payment Aggregators (PAs) and Payment Gateways (PGs).
Non-bank PAs need RBI authorization under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
Non-bank PAs must have a minimum net worth of ₹15 crore upon application.
Net worth for non-bank PAs must increase to ₹25 crore by the end of the third financial year.
PAs are required to conduct background checks and adhere to PCI-DSS.
