JNUSU Seeks Urgent Road Safety Measures
The students' union at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has noticed that there have been more accidents involving vehicles on campus.
They wrote a letter to the university asking for better safety measures.
They want things like speed breakers, signs to control vehicle speed, and a strict speed limit of 30 kmph.
They also want to stop motorcycles from using footpaths to keep students safe.
The university says they are already working on safety measures, like advising bus drivers to be careful and having security guards watch the footpaths.
They will look at the students' suggestions to make the campus safer.
JNUSU reported an increase in vehicle-related accidents on the JNU campus, including a fatal incident three years ago.
The union demanded the installation of three speed breakers and appropriate signboards for vehicle speed regulation.
They proposed a strict enforcement of a 30 kmph speed limit, in line with residential area norms.
The JNU administration acknowledged the issue and stated they are already taking measures to enhance road safety.
The union also called for a strict prohibition on the movement of motorcycles on footpaths used by students.
