Excavation Set for January 2026 at Pattanamarudur Site
Imagine a place where old things are buried.
People are going to dig there in January 2026 to find out what the area was like a long time ago!
They already used a special flying camera (a drone) to take pictures of the area.
Someone found some clues, like old pottery and beads, that tell us the place might have been a busy trading center.
The government will make sure everything is done carefully, especially since some of the land belongs to people who live there.
Excavation at the Pattanamarudur archaeological site is planned to begin in January 2026.
A drone survey and mapping of the site were completed on May 26, 2025.
The Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology will oversee the excavation.
The site was first brought to light by archaeological enthusiast P. Rajesh.
The designated area includes some private land; measures will be taken.
