CEA Flags Vulnerability in Subansiri Hydro Project
Imagine a big electricity-making project in the mountains.
The government is worried because it's in a place where things like floods can happen.
They want to make sure everyone is safe.
So, they told the company running the project to set up a system that gives an early warning if something bad is about to happen, like a flood.
This early warning system is important.
Other similar projects in the mountains also need to be careful.
The goal is to keep the project safe, and the people nearby safe, too.
They're also working to get some parts of the project up and running quickly.
CEA identified the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) as 'vulnerable'.
CEA issued an advisory to NHPC for implementing an Early Warning System (EWS) in the project.
Projects above 1,500 meters in the Himalayan region are considered vulnerable, requiring EWS.
Other projects like Rangit (Sikkim) and Kameng (Arunachal Pradesh) are also identified as sensitive.
Union power secretary visited SLHEP site, appreciating the efforts for early commissioning.
- Who
- The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
- What
- CEA identified the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project as 'vulnerable' and issued an advisory for an Early Warning System (EWS).
- When
- The information was revealed on Thursday by the Minister of State for Power.
- Where
- The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) in the Himalayan region.
- Why
- To implement an EWS for hydroelectric power projects located generally above elevation of 1,500 metres and which are first in the basin in the upper reaches of the Himalayan region.
