Tea Prices Rise at Kochi Auctions
Tea prices went up at the Kochi auctions because of frost and crop loss in the Nilgiris.
The market was very busy, with almost all the tea offered being sold.
The prices for good quality tea increased by a few rupees, and even medium and plain teas became more expensive.
The auction was the last one of the year and was supported by a shortage in production and strong demand during the festive season and holidays.
The orthodox tea market was a bit slower, with only some teas being sold at similar prices to before.
Tea prices in Kochi auctions rose due to frost and crop loss in Nilgiris.
Sale 53 saw 99% sales of 6,43,763 kg CTC dust, with an average price increase of ₹7 per kg.
Good liquoring teas were firm to dearer by ₹2 to ₹5, while medium varieties increased by ₹5 to ₹7.
Orthodox dust market was fair, with primary grades steady to dearer and the rest lower.
The Cochin CTC Dust auction closed on a firm to dearer note due to production shortfall and strong seasonal demand.
