BMC's Supreme Court Sealing Claims Questioned After Ground Verification

BMC's Supreme Court Sealing Claims Questioned After Ground Verification

In the city of Bhopal in India, a local government group called the Bhopal Municipal Corporation keeps the city organized.

The highest court in India told them to stop shops from operating inside areas meant for homes.

The corporation told the court that they had sealed about 100 of these shops.

But when people checked, they found only two shops were actually sealed.

The other shops had closed down on their own, not because of the city's action.

Later, some shops started opening again even though the court case was not finished.

Locks and seals on the two sealed shops were found broken just before a court hearing.

The manager of one hotel said local leaders assured him the market could reopen.

The head of the city corporation said they are waiting for the court's written decision.

This story shows why it is important to check whether reports are accurate.
