PM Modi Links National Handloom Day to 1905 Swadeshi Movement

India has a special day called National Handloom Day every August 7.

It celebrates people called weavers who make cloth by hand on a special machine called a loom.

The loom works without electricity.

This year was the 12th time India celebrated this day.

India's leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asked everyone to join the celebration.

He told people to buy at least one handloom cloth and make a video of it to share with others.

He reminded everyone that on August 7, 1905, Indians started a big movement against British rulers called the Swadeshi Movement.

That movement began because the British divided the region of Bengal.

The Prime Minister said the government will keep helping weavers and the handloom sector.
