Mumbai Metro 9 Launch and Western Line Disruptions
The Mumbai Metro 9 line, which will connect Dahisar East in Mumbai to Mira-Bhayandar in Thane district, is set to start in February 2026.
This new metro line will help reduce traffic on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and make it easier for people to travel between these areas.
The metro will have 11 stations and is expected to carry a lot of passengers every day.
Meanwhile, on January 20, 2026, more than 100 local trains on the Mumbai Western Line were cancelled due to technical work at the Kandivali car shed.
This caused big delays and crowding for passengers.
The work is part of a larger project to improve the railway infrastructure and reduce interference between suburban and long-distance trains.
The metro and train disruptions are both aimed at making travel in Mumbai better in the long run.
Mumbai Metro 9, connecting Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar, to start in February 2026.
Metro line spans 13.58 km with 11 stations, expected to reduce travel time by 50-75%.
Over 100 local trains on the Western Line cancelled on January 20, 2026, due to technical work at Kandivali car shed.
Train cancellations caused delays and crowding, with services expected to return to normal by January 21, 2026.
Metro 9 projected to carry 8.47 lakh passengers daily, reducing dependency on cars and buses.
