JNU to Conduct Own Entrance Exams for PhD Programs
JNU is going to have its own entrance exams for some PhD programs like Korean and Cinema studies, but not for all of them.
This is because the usual national test, UGC-NET, doesn't cover these specific subjects.
The university says this decision was made by the individual schools.
Students are not happy and are protesting, asking that JNU use its own exams for all PhD programs.
They are also on a hunger strike and a meeting to discuss this was canceled.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will hold its own entrance exam (JNUEE) for PhD admissions in Korean Studies and Cinema Studies.
Admissions for other doctoral courses will be based on UGC-NET scores.
The decision to hold JNUEE for these two programs was made by the respective schools.
The JNU Students' Union is protesting and on an indefinite hunger strike, demanding reinstatement of JNUEE for all PhD programs.
A meeting with the vice chancellor was postponed without notice.
