Government Proposes 3-Day Special Parliament Session To Push Delimitation Bill

In India, a big group of leaders called Parliament makes the country's laws.

Some very big changes to the rules need two out of every three leaders to say yes.

The government wants to change how election areas are drawn, which is called delimitation.

It also wants to keep one-third of the seats in Parliament and state assemblies for women.

In April, the government tried to pass this change, but not enough leaders voted for it.

Now the government thinks more leaders will say yes because some members switched from other parties to join its side.

So it asked for a special three-day meeting of Parliament to try again, likely in mid-August.

The main opposition party, Congress, has not agreed yet and wants to talk with its friends first.

Recently, Parliament meetings have been very noisy, with leaders shouting and holding signs, so not much work got done.

The Speaker said that shouting and showing placards is not good for democracy.
