Tamil Nadu Drops ₹266.3-Crore Tax Demand on Dalmia Cement
Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, a big cement company in India, got a notice from the tax office saying they owed a lot of money in taxes and penalties, about ₹266.3 crore in total.
This was for two different years, 2019-20 and 2022-23.
The tax office thought the company didn't pay enough taxes and gave them a penalty.
But then, the tax office decided they didn't owe the money after all and dropped the demand.
The company said this won't hurt their finances.
The company was started a long time ago, in 1939, and is one of the biggest cement makers in India.
Tamil Nadu tax authorities dropped a ₹266.3 crore tax demand notice against Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd.
The notices pertained to differences in taxable turnover and input tax credit for assessment years 2019-20 and 2022-23.
For 2019-20, the tax demanded was ₹128.39 crore with a penalty of ₹19.25 crore.
For 2022-23, the tax demanded was ₹59.32 crore with a penalty of the same amount.
