Tamil Nadu Plans to End Natural Ganesh Idol Immersion

Tamil Nadu Plans to End Natural Ganesh Idol Immersion

Tamil Nadu is considering new rules for putting Ganesh idols into water after celebrations.

The government told a green tribunal that this practice will stop at two Chennai beaches from next year.

It also said it wants to stop immersion in natural water bodies across the state from 2027.

People who support the change say idol materials can pollute water and harm aquatic life.

They suggested building temporary ponds for immersion instead.

Officials say moving many idols to different places could cause traffic and safety problems.

The Chennai Corporation proposed sending some idols to Kovalam and Ennore.

The tribunal has asked the government to explain its full plan in a written affidavit.
