SC Order Delays SIR Hearing Deadlines
The Supreme Court has told the Election Commission to follow new rules for checking voter lists in West Bengal.
This includes giving voters more time to show their documents and making sure they get a receipt.
The Election Commission thinks this will make it hard to finish everything by the original deadline of February 7.
They might need to extend the deadline and add more people to help with the process.
The court also said that the list of people who need to show more documents should be put up in public places.
The Election Commission is now sending more observers to make sure everything is done correctly.
Supreme Court ordered Election Commission to follow new procedures for SIR, including accepting Madhyamik admit cards and issuing receipts.
Election Commission officials believe the current timeline for hearings (February 7) may not be feasible due to the additional steps.
Nearly five million hearings remain pending, and the final roll deadline of February 14 may be extended.
The Supreme Court directed the EC to display the Logical Discrepancy List and provide an additional 10 days for document submission.
Election Commission has deployed 10 more roll observers in West Bengal to ensure the SIR process is carried out correctly.
