Congress Demands Ashwini Vaishnaw's Resignation Over Rail Issues
The Congress party in India is asking for the Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to step down.
They say this is because train fares have gone up, and there are problems with safety and the food served on trains.
The Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, said that there have been many train accidents and not enough safety measures have been put in place.
They also mentioned that there are many job openings in the railways that haven't been filled.
The government has increased train fares by a small amount, but the Congress says this will make travel more expensive for everyone.
They want the minister to fix these problems or resign.
Congress demands Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's resignation over recent fare hike and safety issues.
Fare increase announced: 1 paise per km for ordinary class beyond 215km, 2 paise per km for non-AC and AC classes.
Congress cites 2.18 lakh rail mishap deaths from 2014 to 2023 and only 1% of trains with Kavach safety system.
3.16 lakh railway job vacancies and non-utilization of funds for training mentioned as concerns.
