Congress Weighs Action Against Telangana Minister Surekha
The Congress party is deciding what to do about Telangana minister Konda Surekha.
The dispute began after Surekha’s daughter made critical comments about Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other party leaders.
Party officials gave Surekha a notice because she did not condemn those comments.
Surekha says her daughter is an independent adult and that she cannot be blamed for what her daughter says.
She says she has worked well as a minister and has not faced corruption allegations.
She asked to stay in the cabinet.
A later report said party leaders asked her to resign and might remove her if she refused.
However, people close to Surekha said she had not been asked to resign.
The AICC was initially expected to decide on disciplinary action against Telangana Forest Minister Konda Surekha over her daughter’s remarks about Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders.
A later report said the Congress high command had asked Surekha to resign and was prepared to dismiss her if she refused.
People close to Surekha disputed that account, saying nobody had asked her to resign and that she believed she had done nothing wrong.
Surekha defended her daughter as an independent, married adult and said she should not be held responsible for her daughter’s comments.
Surekha also cited her ministerial performance, lack of corruption allegations and social background while seeking to remain in the cabinet and disciplinary action against MLAs and MLCs who criticized her.
